Caithness Calendar 1997

I have kept the images from some previous calendars on my site as they give a good impression of my work as used in this medium.

Old Keiss Castle is another spectacularly situated Caithness castle.  It stands on a low cliff on Sinclair Bay, north of Wick.

January
The Stacks of Duncansby with a rough sea.  The coastal scenery around Duncansby is particularly spectacular.
February Berridale Braes are particularly attractive with winter colours.
March Bridge Street, Wick with 19th century buildings
April Scrabster is the port for Thurso.  As well as the ro-ro terminal for P&O's ferry St Ola to Orkney, it has now become a major fish landing port.
May  The U-shaped stone setting at Achavanich is unique to Caithness.
June Sir John's Square in the centre of Thurso
July Lybster is one of several small harbours built during the Herring Boom.  Nowadays it occasionally plays host to visiting yachts.
August The Loch of Watten is one of many fine trout fishing lochs in Caithness.
September Castles Girnigoe and Sinclair are spectacularly sited on the north side of Noss Head, near Wick.
October The Whaligoe Steps at Ulbster were built during the 19th century Herring Fishing Boom to carry the catch up to a processing station.
November Dunnet Sands stretch for over 2 miles east of Castletown, and are backed by large sand dunes
December Loch Rangag is on the Cassiemyre Road on the edge of the Flow Country and has a ruined broch.
