Orkney Calendar 1997

I have kept the images from some previous calendars on my site as they give a good impression of my work as used in this medium.

January 
The Ba' is played each Christmas and New Year's Day in Kirkwall by the Uppies and the Doonies.
February The Hoy Hills and Graemsay from Scorrabrae in Orphir. 
March St Nicholas Round Kirk in Orkney was founded about 1152, probably by Earl Haakon Paulson. 
April St Ninian's Isle chapel, where the Pictish silver hoard was discovered.
May  On Norway Day (17th) visiting Norwegians form a procession from the Harbour to the Cathedral.
June Marwick head, Birsay.  Near here HMS Hampshire was sunk in 1916
July Sunset at the Ring of Brodgar, orkney's answer to Stonehenge.
August Mousa Broch is the best preserved broch in existence.
September Lopness Bay, Sanday is typical of the many expansive sandy beaches on this island.
October Stromness  was called Hamnavoe (Harbour Bay) by the Vikings.
November Borwick on the west coast of the Mainland
December St Magnus Cathedral was founded in 1137 in honour  Earl Magnus Erlendson who was murdered in 1116
