Shetland Calendar 1997

I have kept the images from some previous calendars on my site as they give a good impression of my work as used in this medium.


Up Helly Aa is held on the last Tuesday in January each year.  Over 1,000 "guizers" with torches form a long procession, led by the "Jarl's Squad" in Viking costume andthe "Galley", which is burnt at the end of the procession.

January 
The Floro-Lerwick convoy in Lerwick Harbour.  Many Norwegians visit Shetland each summer.
February Weisdale Voe is one of the most dramatic in Shetland.  Looking south down Shetland's west coast. 
March Burraness Broch in Yell is one of the best preserved in the islands. 
April St Ninian's Isle chapel, where the Pictish silver hoard was discovered.
May  The Noup of Noss is one of the most spectacular cliffs on the Mainland.
June Herding sheep near Bigton on the South Mainland.
July St George's Field, Lerwick
August Mousa Broch is the best preserved broch in existence.
September Braewick, near Eshaness in the West Mainland.
October Jarlshof at Sumburgh in the South Mainland had continuous settlement from Bronze Age to Medieveal times.  Viking pavement in foreground.
November Norwick, on the north east of Unst is a very attractive sandy beach.
December Ronas Voe, Northmavine from Heylor, is one of the longest in Shetland.
