Orkney Calendar 1998

We publish calendars annually of the following areas: Orkney, Shetland, Western Isles and Caithness. The calendars are the same design as for the last two years, with a larger size which allows bigger pictures and a more useful calendar area, but with only minimal increase in price and weight. The pictures are of course all new.  As usual the calendars are widely available in each area, but may be ordered direct, either via e-mail charles.tait@zetnet.co.uk, telephone or fax. Retail price is £4.50 per calendar plus UK postage and packing of 50p. Overseas post and packaging extra at cost. Payment by Visa, Mastercard or American Express is preferred.

Summer sunset over the Brough of Birsay and Skipi Geo from the Whalebone

January  Winter sunset at the Ring of Brodgar.  The Loch of Stenness and the Hoy hills are in the background.
February Dennis Head, North Ronaldsay.  The beacon here was the first lighthouse in orkney and was completed in 1789.  The masonry ball on top came from the original Start Point beacon.
March The Earl's Palace in Birsay was built in the 16th century by Earl Robert Stewart and was described in 1633 as being "a sumptuous and stately dwelling".
April The Kist on the east coast of South Ronaldsay.  Scapa Flow and Flotta are in the background.
May  Grobust Beach at the North Side in Westray. This is another good place for wave watching after a big north westerly gale.
June St Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall on a summer evening.  There are some trees in orkney.
July Stromness from the Cannon, which was captured from an American privateer in 1813 ans was fired when ships entering harbour needed provisions.
August The Neolithic village of Skara Brae is unique.  Its 5,000 year old houses such as this one, hut 1, give an immediate feeling for life at that time.
September Yesnaby on the west coast of the Mainland is one of the best places for looking at rough seas.
October The Old Man of Hoy is 137m high.  Seen here from a small boat it drarfs the boat on the left.
November St George and the Gragon was created outside the Italian Chapel on Lamb Holm by Italian prisoners of war in WW2
December Scapa Flow from Lamb Holm, with Hoy in the background
