Caithness Calendar 2001

We publish calendars annually of the following areas: Orkney, Shetland, Western Isles and Caithness. The calendars are the same design as for previous years, with a size of 21x21cm. The pictures are of course all new.  As usual the calendars are widely available in each area, but may be ordered direct, either via e-mail charles.tait@zetnet.co.uk, telephone or fax. Retail price is £4.50 per calendar plus UK postage and packing of £1. Overseas post and packaging is extra at cost (US, Canada and Australia $10US including airmail). Payment by Visa, Mastercard or American Express is preferred.  2001 calendars will be published in July 2000.  Copies may be reserved by e-mail for delivery on publication or later. We also accept orders by phone, fax or mail (see above).


Whins near Latheron. Whins (gorse) are very spectacular on Caithness in Springtime. The Thurso and Wick floral borders are annual delights at the road junction at Ltheron.

January  Sinclair Bay and Noss Head from Ackergill. Castles Sinclair & Girnigoe are very spectacularly place on the north side of Noss Head, while the lighthouse was built in 1849 by Alan Stevenson.
February Achavanich Stone Setting. This unique U-shaped Neolithic monument is accompanied by a chambered cairn and overlooks the Loch of Stemster with its ancient burial ground.
March Scrabster Harbour - the port for Orkney's ro-ro ferry "St Ola" and also now a major landing port for fish from Icelnad, Faroes and elsewhere.
April Whaligeo Steps, Ulbster. Built in the 1800's to ferry herring landed in the geo up to the processing station on top of the cliffs.
May  John O'Groats Harbour in the mist. Port for the Short Sea Route to Orkney as well as home to the noe rare "Stroma Yole".
June Whins above Latheron - lichen and whins grow well in the clean fresh Caithness air.
July Wick River at high tide. The town has undergone a considerable facelift in the last few years. The Heritage Centre is well worth a visit.
August Ires Geo with lichen and thrift on the east coast of Caithness. The cliff wild flowers are at their best in June. One of the many charms of "Hidden Caithness".
September Old Boats and St Peter's Kirk, Thurso. The ruined kirk dates originally back to the 12th century.

Clythness Lighthouse - a small coastal light established in 1916.

 

November Staxigeo, Wick - ancient Viking or earlier harbour.
December Sunset over Dunnet Bay which is backed by spectacular sandunes. One of the longest clear sandy beaches in Northern Scotland.
