Shetland Calendar 2005

We publish calendars annually of the following areas: Orkney, Shetland, Western Isles and Caithness. The calendars are 23x23cm with 12 pictures plus cover. As usual the calendars are widely available in each area, but may be ordered direct, either via email charles.tait@zetnet.co.uk, telephone or fax. Retail price is £4.50 per calendar plus UK postage and packing of £1. Overseas post and packaging is extra at cost (US, Canada and Australia $10US including airmail). Payment by Visa or Mastercard is preferred. We can also send calendars directly to friends or relatives if you wish.

January  Eshaness (from ON Esjaness - Ashy Ness) in an area of dramatic cliff scenery in the North Mainland. The volcanic rocks have eroded into fantastic shapes.

February Shetland Ponies are kept by many people, with their stronghold being Unst.

March Sumburgh Head Lighthouse was built in 1821. There is a panoramic view of the south end from the tower.

April The new Yell Sound ferry "Daggri" at Toft. It went into service in July 2004.

May  Scalloway is still domiated from the Castle built in 1600 by the infamous Patrick Stewart. The harbour front has recently had much renovation done, making the village even more attractive.

June Puffins or Tammie Nories are common in Shetland and may be easily seen at Sumburgh Head. Noss and Hermaness are two other good places to go in search of them.

July Breakon at the north end of Yell has a beautiful sandy beach backed by sand dunes and machair.

August Lewick town gardens and bowling green make a pleasant place for a stroll or seat on a fine day.

September Norwick at the north end of Unst has an especially fine beach with sand and shingle.

October St Ninian's Isle is joined to the Mainland at Bigton by an ayre or tombolo. Bigton Wick is on the north side of this isthmus.

November Jarlshof is a large multi-period site near Sumburgh Head. It was continuously occupied from Bronze Age times until the 1700s.

December The NorthLink ferry "Hjaltland" passing Kirkabister Ness lighthouse on Bressay on its way south to Orkney and Aberdeen.
