Eshaness
(from ON Esjaness - Ashy Ness) in an area of dramatic
cliff scenery in the North Mainland. The volcanic rocks
have eroded into fantastic shapes. |

Ponies are kept by many people, with their stronghold
being Unst. |

Head Lighthouse was built in 1821. There is a panoramic
view of the south end from the tower. |

new Yell Sound ferry "Daggri" at Toft.
It went into service in July 2004. |

Scalloway
is still domiated from the Castle built in 1600 by the
infamous Patrick Stewart. The harbour front has recently
had much renovation done, making the village even more
attractive. |

Puffins
or Tammie Nories are common in Shetland and may be easily
seen at Sumburgh Head. Noss and Hermaness are two other
good places to go in search of them. |

Breakon
at the north end of Yell has a beautiful sandy beach backed
by sand dunes and machair. |

Lewick
town gardens and bowling green make a pleasant place for
a stroll or seat on a fine day. |

Norwick
at the north end of Unst has an especially fine beach
with sand and shingle. |

St
Ninian's Isle is joined to the Mainland at Bigton by an
ayre or tombolo. Bigton Wick is on the north side of this
isthmus. |

Jarlshof
is a large multi-period site near Sumburgh Head. It was
continuously occupied from Bronze Age times until the
1700s. |

NorthLink ferry "Hjaltland" passing Kirkabister
Ness lighthouse on Bressay on its way south to Orkney
and Aberdeen. |
