Maeshowe
Masehowe is the most spectacular Neolithic chambered cairn in Orkney. Dating from about 2750BC, its expertly-built structure and massive proportions are unique. Visiting 12th century Norsemen left much runic grafitti, which the monument is also unique in that the midwinter sunset illuminates the interior. See www.maeshowe.co.uk
