Pictish Orkney
Orkney was part of the Pictish nation until taken over by the Vikings in the 8th century. Many Pictish hoses, artefacts and inscribed stones have been found. Sadly there is not much to see on the ground as most excavations were backfilled, but the Brough of Birsay offers some tantilising glimpses and there are reconstructed Pictish houses at the Broch of Gurness, as well as atrifacts at Orkney Museum.
