Shetland Archaeology Brochs

Shetland may have over 100 broch sites. The most impresive remains Mousa Bri=och, but there are many other very dramatic sites, most of which require serios walking to be reached. Mny are obvious from the many bur- and burra- names on the map which derive from the Norse Burg - fort. While some such sites have settlements around them, most do not. The present excavation of the Old Scatness site is one of the most interesting taking place anywhere at present.
