 Churches and Castles Although
there are many ancient chapel sites and "Kirk" placenames, there
are only a few ancient Christian sites with anything to see. Similarly
the only "Castles" are Muness and Scalloway, in reality 17th
century fancy houses. In the 17th and 18th century larger churches started
to be built, and several ruins remain. However there are no dramatic Medieval
churches, and only the ruinous chapel on St Ninian's Isle has great antiquity.
