Old
Houses
There
is a complete range of ruined domestic buildings from the Neolithic
to the 20th century in Shetland. Ruined houses and field systems may
be seen at the Scord of Brouster and at Pinhoulland in Walls. The large
structure at Staneydale has smaller counterparts on Whalsay and elsewhere.
Although no "Pictish" houses are on view to visitors, there
are several Viking age sites to see. Burnt mounds are quite numerous,
with perhaps the best example being Burnside near Hillswick.
