Norse-type
Mills
There
are many small "Norse" type water mills all over Shetland.
These were certainly used in Norse times but some may in fact be older.
Several of these vertical axis "click" mills are in working
order. They were often built in a cascading series down burns as at
Huxter in Sandness. With the advent of larger watermills in the 19th
century most fell out of use.
