The North Isles of Orkney comprise a large variety of islands, each with its own character. They range from the larger islands such as Westray, the "Queen of the Isles", Sanday and Stronsay, both very fertile, and with marvellous sandy beaches, Eday and Rousay with moorland and archaeology, to North Ronaldsay and Papay, where older ways of life still hold sway. Shapinsay has its own Victorian castle, while the many smaller uninhabited islands are also very interesting to visit.
