Shapinsay Shapinsay lies just off the Mainland, near Kirkwall. It has a large Victorian "Castle" and was one of the first areas in Orkney to have its land changed from runrig to fields in the 18th century. There are many sites of interest, an RSPB nature reserve and Balfour Castle and gardens may be visited.
