Coastal
Defence
There are
many coastal defence batteries dotted about Orkney. All are in prominent
locations and make interesting visits. They were built during WWI and WWII
to defend against raing German E Boats and naval ships. There were also
many anti-aircraft sites all over the islands, some of which still remain,
but most of which have been cleared away now.
