Shetland - Islands

Shetland is composed of well over 100 islands which range from the biggest, Yell to mere skerries. Each has its own character and places of interest. Most can be reached by ro-ro ferry or passenger boat, while the remoter ones can also be reached by air.

Bressay & Noss are reached by ferry from Lerwick
Burra Isle & Trondra are joined to the Mainland south of Scalloway
Fair Isle lies about 24 miles south of Sumburgh
Fetlar is to the east of Yell and is reached from Yell or Unst
Foula is 24 miles west of West Burra
Mousa is off the east of the South Mainland
Papa Stour is off the coast near Sandness in the north west

Out Skerries lie to the east of Whalsay
St Ninian's Isle is off the west of the Mainland near Bigton
Unst is the most northerly island
Whalsay lies to the east of the North Mainland
Yell lies to the north of the Mainland
