Brae
& Voe - North Mainland
The
pictuesque village of Voe lies at the head of Olna Firth on the road
north from Lerwick, while Brae is at the north end of Busta Voe, and
has developed due to its proximity to the Oil Terminal at Sullom Voe.
The island of Muckle Roe is joined to the Mainland by a bridge and
has spectacular coastal scenery on its south and west coasts, especially
at the Hams. The old wartime airfield at Scatsta has been revived
for oil related traffic. The road to Northmavine crosses a narrow
ithmus at Mavis Grind which "separates the North Sea and the
Atlantic".
